Elevation

We left the lodge before dawn beneath a sky swallowed by fog. The mountains had disappeared completely, and there was no promise that the climb would reveal anything at all. Still, we continued upward toward Kala Patthar.

As we climbed, the fog began to thin. Then the clouds opened and the Himalayan peaks emerged as first light swept across them in gold and amber.

We descended in silence and awe, carrying the feeling that the mountains had revealed themselves only when we chose to keep going.
